Your Heating and Air Conditioning Has Unused Capacity

In the current rough economic climate and with utility costs rising, we all want to save money. Just about all people are paying more than they should for utility costs every month because their heating/air health system isn’t be used to its capacity. The heating and air fitness system includes the duct work and filter.

Most people think if they may have 97% efficient heater and newer air fitness system they are doing everything they can to save money on heating & cooling their home. In most homes because of poor duct design the systems are operating at less than 60% of rated capacity. More often than not when a high efficient air-con system is installed with a poorly designed duct system the efficiency gets worse. This happens because the high efficient air conditioning coils are much larger and restrict air-flow more than a smaller coils.

Studies preformed by Country wide Comfort Institute and the Department of Energy have found that a lot of homes with forced air heating & cooling systems have forty percent or better of empty capacity.

This is not hard to understand if you think about this. In case you have a forced air heating & cooling system you are paying to condition air.

Unused capacity is the number of air your heating & cooling is capable of conditioning but can’t because it is not there to condition. Every sixty seconds that your writers are recorded in your air conditioner or air conditioning converter is running any abandoned capacity is merely wasted energy.

One way to consider this: You have a tub you have to hand fill with drinking water.

You want to complete the tub with 60 gallons of water: You have a 1 gallon bucket. but rather than filling up the bucket with a gallon water and getting rid of 50 times. You complete with 1/2 gallon of water and dump it 100 times. Your capacity was 1 gallon however, you only used 1/2 gallon of the bucket which took more energy to fill the tub.

A forced air comfort system (Furnace and/or Air Health and fitness System) is doing the same thing if it is not need the proper amount of air through the system. Keep in mind you are paying to conditioning air. That is what you want it to do.

Very few people which includes almost all of Heating, Cooling professionals no longer look at it as a system.

They look at it as a Box (Furnace or Outside the house Condensing Unit for Surroundings Conditioning. (This is not knocking any contractors; however this is what we are taught. Most of the training in the Heating & Cooling Market originates from Furnace and Air Conditioning Manufacturers and their job is to trade equipment not maintain existing equipment or repair insufficient ductwork. )

When a furnace and air fitness system is installed and airflow is not dealt with your odds of receiving the lottery are better than the actual results of that new Top High Efficient Equipment providing what you were informed it was going to do

You may save some money but to really save money the equipment needs to run less and the best way to do this is for it to be sized properly, (Most machines are oversized) we still believe bigger is better. Your equipment should be as small as possible. Meeting a properly preformed load calculation for your home or business and it needs to be used to capacity. Sorry this is getting off topic.

In all of that few things I would like you come away with are:

You don’t have simply a furnace and air conditioning unit you have a Comfort System.
Your Ease and comfort System’s Job is to condition air. (All Yr Long)
If you have never had an air movement analysis it would be a wise investment. You may find that some duct renovation would be a very good investment.
