Using Type and the MBTI to Diagnose Organizational Issues – The E-I Dichotomy

The Myers-Briggs Type Indication (MBTI) is a tool to help both professionals and employees and co-staffs understand one another. It is important to remember, that, whenever using personality entering, it is a tool to aid in understanding. While the MBTI is not a tool that can be used to predict performance, it can help a team be familiar with underlying motivations for many of its members’ activities. 

The MBTI sorts individuals as one of 14 personality types. These types are formed by brushing one trait from each of the four dichotomies, Extraversion-Introversion, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling and Judging-Perceiving.

Perhaps one of the most easily familiar preferences is the Extraversion-Introversion pairing. This dichotomy tackles the origin of an person’s energy. Is social conversation invigorating, or does the individual recharge by retreating? An E individual locates strength in extended relationships. They seem to be to increase better as the night time advances and are often the last to leave a meeting. The I, might benefit from the interaction for period, but finds it necessary to retreat and recharge.

The E-I communication rub often occurs because E’s and I’s have very different styles of communication. The E individual “speaks to think”. When an extraverted individual speaks, they are formulating their thoughts. They will are doing what might be called a brain dump; anything which is though, is said. The Introverted individual on the other hand, usually will not likely speak until there is a processed thought; they “think to speak”. The conflict often arises as the introverted team affiliate tries to support the vibrant member to his ramblings or an extraverted call, doesn’t understand the thought that all has removed into the introverted associates comment.

E’s and I’s need to understand that both process information in a different way. E’s verbally and I’s introspectively. As I’s learn to distinguish the big difference between their E coworkers’ brainstorming and action items, they will be much happier. E’s need to understand that whenever an I actually speaks, it’s likely that it is going to happen.
